YOU SAY IT'S YOUR BIRTHDAY-
THE BEST BIRTHDAY BLESSING EVER!
Last year I decided that I had done enough of the celebrations of various kinds for my birthday and wanted to do something very different. I wanted to celebrate what God had given me in my life and celebrate the special gifts and talents that God had brought together to create who I am.
The opportunity for a BLESSED BIRTHDAY came to me when I found out about a program called
CIA is a non profit organization that was founded with the specific intent of helping senior citizens in our local area whose homes are in need of repairs.
"CHRISTMAS IN ACTION"
aka
"CIA"
Well this just spoke to my heart. I signed up and was given contact information for an elderly lady who house needed painted on the ceilings and walls of the kitchen, living room and hallway.
Happy Birthday to Me! |
So with excitement I began my invitation list on my Facebook page. I invited friends and family to come help me with this project. We had a
house full of people. So many that eventually we decided to take shifts
to paint.
It took all day. My dearest friend Christy Dement was so wonderful. She stayed the entire day and even helped me clean up when we were done.
Thank You SISTER!! |
My body was so exhausted at the end of the day. Afterward I went home and just laid on the couch. It felt so good to relax. I had such a great feeling of pride in honoring what God had given me through using my skills and my blessed health and physical ability to serve others in HIS kingdom. A feeling of elation came over me and I know that no birthday will ever be the same.
You see God blessed me with abundance, joy, peace, happiness and continues to do so. I hope I have another opportunity on my birthday to serve others within our community and honor my maker for who HE made me to be.
Thank you to all who served along side of me to make this such a blessing-Christy Dement, Brian, Jenna and Jonathan Tacket, Mary Cordoba Silva and her daughter Angel, My daughters Caitlin and Annelise, Skylier Davis and my brother in law Ty Buchanan.

Slip covers ....something old ....something new.....
Well I finally got around to doing something that has taken me a couple of years to get motivated. The lines on these footstools were so lovely I could not resist the purchase but I hated the gold velvet color.
I thought about painting them with fabric paint but for some reason that just was not a good fit for us and our household. Then about upholstering them but that still left me with the WHAT IF... WHAT IF I SPILL SOMETHING ON THEM.... so I decided slipcovers were the way to go.
These were pretty simple to make. I just reverse pinned the top and then sewed ruffles from the bottoms of old linen curtains I had around the house.
Slipcovers are the way to go in this household-I can wash them if they get dirty-(which they will with this crew).
If you need additional information here is a link to Dear Lillie with details how to make a slip cover.

CURB APPEAL-To View or Not to View that is the QUESTION
Curb Appeal is how your home looks from the front curb, and is generally
understood to mean that the yard and house are well-maintained and cared for.
Curb Appeal has been featured on shows such as HGTV, DIY network, and others. Most buyers and sellers know about “Curb Appeal." but what really does it represent psychologically to a prospective buyer?
No Curb Appeal |
Additional Curb Appeal could include the house paint is in good condition, the porch railings and floors are maintained, and the front door is clean and painted. The front walkways and porches are swept to remove dirt.
All of these things ensure your house looks good from the street. They can keep it from being eliminated as a choice. But, what can you do to make your house even more enticing to potential buyers?
Here are some additional tips to evoke a WELCOME feeling to those prospective buyers within minutes of seeing your home-whether they are driving by a neighborhood or looking at images or photos of your home on the internet.
- Add plants to the front entry way. Making sure they are well maintained.
- Create symmetry at your front door. Science has determined that people are attracted to symmetry. It creates a feeling of balance and evokes positive thoughts.
- Add outdoor furniture like a chair with a pillow or a bench and some books. The idea is to create in the prospective buyers mind-"Wow this is a place I would like to relax."
- Update old and out of date fixtures and make sure they are in proper working order. Let the buyer know you care about your house-right down to the littlest detail-the doorbell."
- Replace or paint your front door. Paint gives a fresh look and is budget friendly.
- Include good-quality outside shots of your house on the MLS/FSBO listings. Dawn or early twilight photos show the house in a different light, literally and figuratively. It’s warmer and more inviting than direct sunlight. Determine how your house is position to get best light. If the front is west-facing, twilight is great. If it’s east-facing, dawn is perfect. If it's north or south-facing, try early twilight.

A Pleasurable Location made from PALLETS and a WONDERFUL HUSBAND
Well this all started back in April or May but I had a grand idea to build a deck for some private dining so I would have a place to put my 3 door privacy panel that my husband made for me. I wanted to create ambiance and make it very romantic
Here is my inspiration photo for the 3 door screen and table, which was my reason for building a small deck.
Here is my 3 door panel made from old doors sitting in our garage. I added a mirror and sconces to each of the paneled doors (you can' t see them in this picture but I will post another picture of these door panels at a later time)
As we started to lay out the pallets to build this deck for this
dining area something happened.
We decided to go BIGGER.
-to use the entire area of the backyard rather than just one corner area. Laying the pallets out in different forms and designs took us awhile.
Once the configurations for the pallets were all laid out we began decking. This took awhile as my husband, TAC had to make many cuts and line the wood up so the decking would be staggered for structural function but also so it would be pleasing to the eye. I can tell you screwing in screws every foot eventually wears on your back.
Then as time went by and we used the deck for a couple of parties (even though it wasn't finished) and we realized that we could use some more pallets to build a seating area at one end of deck for nights when we felt like entertaining.
The DECK took on it's own personality and I had to find another location
for the 3 door panel with sconces. It has been a work in progress over
the past couple of months but here is the final structural photo.
I will now need to get to sewing pillows and adding some decorative charms. I could not have done it without my amazing husband. He is so incredible I even have a board on pinterest just for him entitled "THINGS FOR TAC TO MAKE"
Well gotta get busy sewing and taking more pictures to get this finished before it gets to cold outside to enjoy it!
THANK YOU WONDERFUL HUSBAND!!!! HUGS and KISSES

CHRISTMAS 2011 Joy
These are constructed out of mason jars. I glued lace fabric to the back of the jars with silver glitter letters on a piece of black card stock. Filled each of the jars with raffia, silk greenery and a battery operated candle.

Water Fountain Inspiration
Here it is August and it is hot and dry. Maybe that is why a outdoor water fountain is on my mind. We took down the kids pool. When we did I could not believe how much space it opened up and how much BETTER the back yard looked. But I know we need a water feature in our yard- somewhere. Just the sound of relaxing water splashing can bring so much peace of mind.
My husband mentioned wanting to put in a firepit. So I thought why not a firepit/fountain/planter for different seasons of the year. Well that is where my quest started and then I ran into this beauty. I mean how artful! Now I do not think I would have the opportunity or space to have a Baby Grand Piano Water Fountain but it got me thinking in a different direction. So I hopped on Craiglist and guess what I found????? Well you will have to wait for the next post-because this water fountain led me to another idea- REDNECK HOT TUB and believe me it is REDNECK with SHABBY CHIC twist.
